About Us

Discover how a family dream became a campground rooted in nature, community, and unforgettable Texas Hill Country experiences.

Get to Know Al’s Hideaway

Learn the story behind Al’s Hideaway and the people who built it. This page shares how a dream turned into a campground, the meaning behind our name, and how family, hard work, and a love for the Texas Hill Country shape everything we do.

A picnic table is in the middle of a lush green forest.

In 2017, Gordon Cook transformed 20 acres of open field into a welcoming campground. From clearing land to building cabins, everything was done with care and intention. Al’s Hideaway reflects the family’s passion for nature, sustainability, and providing a comfortable, memorable experience for all who visit.

Built by Hand, Made for Guests

Gordon and Jennifer, along with “MeMaw” and their extended family, run Al’s Hideaway with heart and hospitality. From fostering teens to hosting guests, their commitment to community and connection is clear. Their motto—“Arrive a guest, Become Friends, Return as Family”—guides every stay and every interaction.

Room to Relax and Explore

Beyond the cabins and campsites, our property offers plenty of space to spread out and enjoy the outdoors. Guests can cool off in the pool, stroll peaceful walking trails, gather under the pavilion, or simply unwind under the big Texas sky—everything you need is right here.
