This Week at Al's Hideaway

We had a good week here at the campground — and we actually got to sneak away and ride a little.

We rode a section of the BDR-X Hill Country, and it reminded me why we chose this place to begin with. The Hill Country is rustic, adventurous, and ideal for touring on two wheels. The main roads are beautiful, no doubt about it — but when you ease off onto the back roads and venture into the countryside, something changes.

It gets quiet.

Peaceful.

Scenic in a way that makes you slow down whether you meant to or not.

And it’s not just for motorcycles. Jeeps and other off-road vehicles absolutely shine out there. There’s something special about exploring the backcountry, taking the long way around, and finding views most folks never see.

If you’re thinking about coming out and want someone to show you around — we’ve got you covered. We know these roads, and we love sharing them.

Last week, I left you with a question.

Andrea from Cowgirl Realty had called, excited as could be. She said she’d found the perfect property. It checked every box — the location, the size, the layout. Everything.

But like my pappy always said,
“If it seems too good to be true, it probably is.”

So we scheduled a visit.

Driving out there for the first time, we were equal parts excited and cautious. After three months of searching, hoping, and almost settling, we weren’t about to get carried away.

Following the GPS, it brought us in off Timber Creek… straight to a gravel hill that was way too steep for us. Heartbreaking. We just looked at each other thinking, well, that’s that.

Then we realized — there was another way in.

Excitement level back up.

When we finally found the actual property, it was so grown up you could barely walk through it. We drove our Jeep up the dry creek bed just to get a glimpse of part of it. And the more we saw, the more excited we got.

We called Andrea to let her know we were there. She wasn’t far away and came right out. She told us she had flown over the property in her plane and believed that once it was cleared and cleaned up, it would be perfect.

The next day, Jennifer drove the Jeep back toward the center of the property. I grabbed a pistol, a Kaiser blade, and my faithful pitbull Betty, and started cutting my way in. Jennifer stayed in the Jeep honking the horn so I could follow the sound.

It was thick. Grown up. Rough.

By the time Betty and I fought our way back out, I thought she might bite me for dragging her through that mess.

But in the middle of all that brush…

There was flat ground.
Natural grass.
Big trees.

And I could see it.

The layout I had carried in my head for months — it fit.

That’s when I knew.

Andrea had done it.

Perfect location.
Perfect geographic layout.
Big trees.
Room to breathe.

This was it.

We went to eat and talk it through with Andrea. Swung by the Chicken Coop, had a few drinks, and then back to the hotel to go over every detail. The next morning, Sunday, we met at the property.

We made an offer.

Andrea turned it in.

Now we were really excited.

And that’s where we’ll stop for this week.

Until next Sunday…

Happy Trails.
Be Safe & God Bless.
